ACT Chorale

The ACT IMP Chorale offers an opportunity for interested, hard-working and skilled vocalists (singers) in Years 7-12 in ACT public schools to develop their vocal and ensemble skills in a supportive environment. This group is un-auditioned. However, in selecting students for membership, consideration will be given to ensuring a balance of factors such as voice type, age, experience, and year level. Membership in the ACT IMP Chorale is for one year only. All places are declared vacant at the end of each academic year, and students may choose to re-audition for a place in the group for the following year.
This ensemble performs repertoire covering a wide range of genres and including songs in four-part harmony. The ability to read music notation is not required, but students will be provided with opportunities to develop this skill over the course of the year. The ACT IMP Chorale is an active performance ensemble, and families accepting a place in the group must be prepared to make a strong commitment to attendance at rehearsals and performances throughout the year.
Students accepting a place in the ACT IMP Chorale for 2026 are also required to be active and positive participants in their school choirs, where the opportunities exist.
Private singing lessons for participants in the ACT IMP Chorale are not required, but are encouraged if the family is in a position to provide such an opportunity for their child.
There is an annual membership fee associated with participation in this ensemble, and this fee is subject to change each year. Please note that this fee is a contribution only and does not cover the full costs associated with a student’s participation in the group. There is an additional charge for the uniform shirt ordered via the IMP. Students are required to wear black pants, socks and shoes for all performances. There may also be additional costs associated with participation in excursions and other events.
In 2026, ACT IMP Chorale rehearsals will be held each Monday 5:45-7:00pm during school terms, at the IMP premises in Kaleen.
In 2026, the conductor of the ACT IMP Chorale is Joel Copeland.
