The IMP's System Bands and Ensembles
The staff of the IMP voluntarily administer and direct four after-hours concert bands. All four of these bands are self funding and operate almost entirely on members' contributions. They do receive some assistance from the IMP in the form of loans of bigger instruments to members and access to the resources of the IMP such as the print music library and rehearsal space. Almost all of the equipment of the system bands - such as music stands, stand banners, percussion, etc - has been purchased with funds earned by the bands themselves.
None of the system bands are "community bands" in the sense that they are open to members of the public. They each have a particular reason for their existence, and the membership is selected by audition of students from ACT Department of Education schools only.
Further information about each of the bands, including the audition process, and where applicable, the audition application forms and rubrics can be found on the individual band pages
The Primary Concert Bands will be filled by audition during IMP classes in week 9, Term 4 and commence rehearsals in term 1. Applications will be issued by IMP teachers during class time. These bands are only open to Yr 6 students in the IMP class on the instrument they study in that class.
The bands rehearse each Monday or Thursday at the IMP offices - Kaleen High School, Baldwin Drive, Kaleen from 6.30 - 8.00pm.
Positions in the Junior and Senior Concert Bands are filled by audition in term 4 for the following year. Applications for JCB & SCB are advertised through schools and this website from early September with auditions in November .
There are three additional ensembles in the IMP extension groups - Flute Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble (years 7-12 in ACT public schools) and Primary Concert Choir (PCC) for Yr 4-6 students.
See home page for IMP calendar.
Here is a medical form for IMP excursions if you need another one.
