IMPACT now offers Fife and Recorder Classes!!
Recorder classes became part of the Instrumental Music Program in 2005 and in 2006 Fife and Drum classes were added to cater for schools whose enrolment could not support the usual "band" class. In 2008 we will have 4 recorder schools - Duffy PS, Mawson PS, Gold Creek Junior School and Hawker PS and 5 fife schools - Yarralumla PS, Giralang PS, Latham PS, Hughes PS and Chapman PS.
Southern Cross PS is trialling a special yr 2/3 music program in 2008.

For related paperwork and dates see the page associated here called forms and stationery.
IMPACT administers a valuable pool of resources that allow a number of ACT Government primary schools to offer group lessons on fife and recorder. These resources include skilled and qualified teachers, musical instruments and print music. These Classes are offered to selected students from Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 (fife) and Years 4, 5 & 6 (recorder)depending on school numbers. The Classes are held during school time and in groups of up to 25 students. Recorder students develop skills on recorder, tuned and untuned percussion with some students moving on to treble and tenor recorder in their second year. Fife students develop skills on fife, untuned (bass and snare drum) and tuned percussion with a focus on memory learning leading up to marching whilst playing in their second year. A school-based teacher assists with the management of the Class and is the Director of the school group at performances.
